Summer Class: 9th Grade Reading and Writing

Course Overview

Designed to enrich and elevate the literacy skills of high school freshmen. This course is meticulously tailored for 9th graders aiming to strengthen their comprehension, critical analysis, and writing proficiency, setting a solid foundation for their high school English journey.

Key Concepts 

• Advanced reading comprehension: Delving into more complex texts, students will learn to identify themes, analyze character development, and understand different narrative techniques.
• Expanding vocabulary and literary terminology: Building a richer vocabulary to enhance both understanding and expression in writing and discussions.
• Writing workshops: Focusing on crafting well-structured essays, creative writing pieces, and persuasive arguments. Emphasis is placed on developing a clear, coherent writing style, with a focus on thesis development, organization, and evidence-based analysis.
• Grammar and syntax mastery: Refining grammar and language usage to improve clarity and sophistication in writing.
• Critical thinking and discussion: Encouraging analytical and interpretive skills through class discussions, debates, and written responses to reading materials.
