Overview

High school students frequently have limited time with guidance counselors to discuss the college admissions process, resulting in many unanswered questions and concerns about their future goals. This course offers a structured, collaborative environment where students can address common queries, work on application requirements, and receive feedback from both the instructor and peers.

In This Course Students Will

  • Think critically about their future careers/goals and how their college plans align
  • Enhance their skills in collaboration, critical thinking, and peer review
  • Determine personal criteria for selecting colleges
  • Create a timeline for completing application requirements
  • Learn how to stand out with the admissions essay
  • Complete drafts of the admissions essay and supplemental application essays
  • Learn how to approach faculty or other for letters of recommendation
  • Understand the importance of the FAFSA and receive guidance for its completion
  • Identify and pursue local, state, and college-specific scholarship opportunities
